Humanity is deciding to choose which way to die.
Nuclear Nightmare or Climate Calamity.
Which one of the two ways would you prefer to see the human race wiped out from the face of the Earth?
I know asking these kinds of questions makes you look like a crazy person, especially when people are unaware of the events unfolding at the global level, but it’s the most obvious question to ask looking at humanity’s current plight. It seems like we’re standing at a crossroads perplexed to choose between the right and left turn, both of which lead to ruination while refusing to go straight down the road of no-nonsense.
The cold war escalations against Russia and China continue, which can turn into a hot war as quickly as a millisecond turns into a second. The war in Ukraine has broken the previous record of being closest ever to a nuclear war, which is destined to break again as things start heating up with China. The people in power, blinded by their arrogance and the inability to understand reality, are making full efforts to make sure that we end up helplessly staring at the mushroom clouds while the general population is either kept too busy to focus on the delicacy of the situation or too propagandized to question the delicacy of the situation. Those who take the time to see through the war fog created by constant propaganda spin are criticized as traitors or have their voices shut down. There are plenty of those who are saying that “we should not be afraid of Putin’s nuclear threats” which is a seemingly brave way of saying something as idiotic and ridiculous as “we should not lower the possibility of a nuclear holocaust,” and they are the ones who want humanity to take one of the two paths leading to destruction.
Now that we have talked about one way of going extinct, it’d be better if we also talk about the other possible way of achieving the same: Climate Calamity.
By now, you probably have heard of Climate Change, which, in simpler terms, means that our current way of living and organizing at both an economic and social level is putting so much stress on the Earth’s ecosystem that it has started showing signs of an eventual biosphere breakdown. Some of these symptoms include rising temperatures globally at an unprecedented pace, insects vanishing, oceans choking to death, rising sea levels, soil becoming less fertile, etc. Instead of taking drastic measures to prevent the worst from happening like an intelligent species as we like to call ourselves to be, we’re taking steps that are bound to cause the worst for not only humans but every other species. In a saner world, the industry doing the most to push humanity towards an inhabitable planet would have been defunded and forced to shut down by now, but what we have is a world full of insane people, and, therefore, it doesn’t surprise me when the reports showing that we’re subsidizing the fossil fuel industry at a whopping $11 million PER MINUTE globally come out. Would you still question the madness of our society when those pushing for a revolutionary change are ridiculed and criticized while those causing climate change are subsidized?
Sometimes, it seems like we’re racing towards both kinds of destruction so that if one of the attempts fail, the other one is ready to do the job. It’s like you hate somebody so much that you paid a bounty to two killers so that even if your target survives the first attack, he sure doesn’t get to breathe after the second one.
The propagandists have done such a wonderful job hiding the straight road of harmony and justice that the majority of the population has been led to believe that the only way to move ahead is either to turn right or turn left. This is what you get when common sense has been overruled by the intoxication of war and our addiction to forever economic growth. The alleged “most intelligent species” is confused to choose between the two possible ways of going extinct.
