ISSUE #107: Biden's hypocritical speech and the Press Secretary's new definition for extremism.
On Thursday, President Biden gave a speech titled “Soul of the Nation” which is the phrase he used during his election campaign also to describe the fight for democracy in the face of “extreme” opponents. In the speech, he explained how the Trumpists in the Republican party and those carrying the MAGA (Make America Great Again) ideology are a grave threat to the American democracy who “thrive on chaos” and “don’t respect the constitution.”
“Donald Trump and the Maga Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our Republic,” said Biden,
“Maga forces are determined to take this country backwards,”
“Backwards to an America where there is no right to choose, no right to privacy, no right to contraception, no right to marry who you love.”
“Not every republican, not even the majority Republicans are MAGA republicans. Not every republican embraces their extreme ideology, but there’s no question the republican party today is dominated, driven, and intimidated by Donald Trump and MAGA republicans.”
The speech sparked controversy as it angered many Republicans with Congressman Kevin McCarthy tweeting “you [Biden] owe millions of Americans an apology” and Republican Party member Marjorie Taylor Greene saying “Joe Biden MUST BE IMPEACHED.”
The White House Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, defended the remarks of President Biden by giving the world a whole new definition of extremism. According to her, if your views don’t align with the majority you are an extremist.
Thank God she doesn’t work at Oxford University.
Democrats saying Republicans are extremists is like the ISIS members saying Al Qaeda is an extremist group and vice versa. The only difference is that the world knows about the extreme ideology of the latter, while having a little, if any, clue about the extremism of the former. Both parties blaming each other being a “threat to American democracy” is like the two murderers blaming each other for the murder they committed together with each saying “mine evidence is better.” Both parties work for the same power structure just like both murderers work for the same mafia group.
Each part of this controversy is funny;
It’s funny when the Democrats say that Republicans are extremists while ignoring its own track record,
It’s funny when Republicans say they are not extremists,
It’s funny when people think that MAGA republicans are different from other republicans,
It’s funny when people take Biden’s “Soul of the Nation” speech seriously because for the democracy to come under threat, it has to exist first,
It’s funny when the White House Press-Secretary says you are an extremist if you are not thinking what the majority of Americans are thinking.
For decades, the definition of word “extremist” has been someone whose religious or political ideology makes them do illegal or violent things such as killing those who don’t submit to their ideology, but when you are living under the most powerful and violent empire in the history of humanity, it has to be something that justify its existence, which is what the Press Secretary tried to do.
If we go by her definition, 49% of Americans are extremists because their views about at least one thing differ from the other 51%.
If the mainstream narrative is to start WWIII, you’ll be labeled “extremist” for advocating for peace. Do you see how ridiculous it sounds? What’s even more ridiculous is that there are people who will embed the new empire-serving definition of extremism into their propaganda-addled minds to qualify for being the useful idiots of the vicious empire.
If extremism is what it has meant for decades then the US empire is the extremist of the highest order. No nazi or neo-Nazi group, no jihadist group, no communist group, or any other “extreme” group you know, has inflicted more tyranny and violence over the world than the group running the US empire. If the aggression of the US empire is an ocean, then the aggression of every other extremist group we are told to worry about is just a drop in that ocean. Yes, even if you combine them all.
Show me an “extreme” group that:
has spent 21st century killing people in millions,
is encircling the planet with its military bases,
starves civilians to death with economic sanctions for being born in a “wrong” country,
works regularly to overthrow the governments that disobey it,
has economic, militaristic, and media dominance that every other “extreme” group can only dream of.
There isn’t any except the one and only that presents itself as not extreme - the US empire.
Mainstream views are mainstream not because the public chose them without being propagandized, but because they were indoctrinated into making those particular views mainstream. The only reason capitalism, corruption, war, censorship, militarism are mainstream is because huge amounts of money is poured into making them mainstream. Why? Because all of them benefit the status quo in ways unimaginable and harm the public in ways unimaginable.
When capitalism is mainstream, communism becomes extreme.
When war is mainstream, peace becomes extreme.
When hate is mainstream, love becomes extreme.
When the exploitation of labor is mainstream, protesting against exploitation becomes extreme.
When oppression is mainstream, the revolution becomes extreme.
That’s how it has always been and, unfortunately, will always be if we don’t rise up like the lions and hunt the capitalist class.
