There we have it.
Twitter has been sold to the world’s richest man for nearly $44 billion at $54.20 per share.
Musk has indicated that the reason he is acquiring Twitter for is the ever increasing censorship on the platform. He says he want free speech to prevail on Twitter.
Clearly, he seems to be a big proponent on free speech, an idea I support 100%.
Information should be allowed to flow freely without any hindrance or censorship. Censor a topic/information means you don’t want the public to know or learn about that topic/information, which leads to one side of the story being freely circulated and the other one being suppressed. Forming an unbiased opinion is only possible when you have access to both sides of the story, but censoring one side makes your opinion biased towards the one not being censored. Therefore, the platform like Twitter, where different people discuss different ideas, is a great tool for the government to control the narrative.
Will he deliver on his promises?
Many people are enthusiastically waiting for Trump to make a come back on the platform,
but that’s NOT the real test of Musk’s experiment.
The real test is :
whether he continues to let Twitter being used as a sort of weapon by the US government to tackle official enemies like Russia and China,
whether he stops the censorship of Russian media in the ongoing war,
whether he allows the free flow of information regarding the hypocrisy and crimes of the US empire.
Of course, restoring the suspended accounts is a move towards free speech but this won’t pose any real threat to the US empire’s power of narrative control.
The ability to control narrative will go down the toilet once “Russian propaganda” start flowing freely and both sides of the story are being told to the public. Do you think people in the White House will tolerate that? If yes, what are you smoking?
They will never tolerate such a move that threatens their anti-Russia, anti-China, or anti-US-critic propaganda that they have spent years building up. They will go to the limits one can’t even imagine to keep an edge over the rising superpowers.
As long as there is no suppression of Palestinian voices, no suspension of the critics of the US foreign policy, no censorship of the information that threatens the current narrative, I do not want to celebrate a billionaire buying up Twitter, no matter how many posts he share about the free speech, and how many Trump(s) make a come back.
