ISSUE #81: Australia is as sovereign as the US wants it to be.
The notion that a country having elections is sovereign and democratic is utterly false. Your country can be a colony of a bigger and stronger state even if it organizes a popularity contest every 4 years or so, and it can be a sovereign nation with the fullest meaning of the word without holding elections at all.
In a recent Washington address, the Defence Minister of Australia, Richard Marles, acted as a testimony to prove that Australia - just like many other countries - is a vassal state of the globe-spanning US empire.
“The ADF will move beyond interoperability to interchangeability [with US forces] to operate seamlessly together, at speed,” said the Defence Minister. I don’t think it means anything other than that the Australian military force, a fundamental force for national sovereignty, will be used by the US to serve its own war machine and to fulfill its own agendas rather than that of the country in SouthEast Asia.
For context, look no further than what’s happening in Ukraine. The US is using the Ukrainian armed forces as cannon fodders in its proxy war against the Russians, which achieves nothing other than the continuous destruction of Ukraine and billions of dollars in revenue for the military-industrial complex. The ideas being implemented in Ukraine are discussed in Washington for approval that serves the interest of the US only.
I think that’s precisely what’s gonna happen in the upcoming confrontation with another nuclear superpower - China. The US will most likely not engage in a direct conflict with Beijing in order to avoid a nuclear exchange but would most certainly use Australia as a battleground and Australians as its slave soldiers to thwart the rise of China in any way possible.
Australia is and has been a colony of the US for decades and coups have been staged there to ensure that the country remains under the control of Washington. If the country was truly sovereign, it would have never allowed the US to set up a massive satellite surveillance base in Pine Gap, which it uses to collect intelligence on its rivals in Asia. Australia will be a vital military and intelligence asset for the US when the time comes to drop the hammer on Beijing.
You might say that Australia can stay neutral in this case. That’s a valid point but not practical because the government out there is the puppet of the US and also, what’s happening here is that you are either with the US or against it; the Cold War doctrine. Australia isn’t aligning with the US to protect itself from China, but to protect itself from the US. Because we all know what happens to the countries that disobey Washington.
China - which is the number one trading partner of Australia - has to be the number one enemy of Canberra because the US said so.
