Twitter Diaries #2
As the US's proxy war against Russia continues, it has to be recalled that the 2016 Russiagate propaganda campaign played a significant role in turning the American public's opinion against Russia.
By framing Russia as "a threat to democracy" the US lawmakers and officials played on the public's patriotic emotions and convinced them that they can either be patriotic or support Russia.
Russia was no longer called a matter of foreign policy, but something far bigger - a domestic threat to the American public. Russia was no longer a threat to American superpower status but the general public of the US. This kind of narrative was pushed into the public discourse.
And today, we find ourselves at a position where the US empire is ramping up the games of nuclear chicken with the biggest nuclear power in the world and everybody, instead of opposing, is supporting this.
Because of propaganda that continued for years, the public is manipulated into supporting anything as long as it is framed as "tackling Russia."
Killing a human, chopping it into pieces, and then selling it in the markets would cause a major public outlash.
But killing other sentient beings, chopping them, and selling them for profit is just a daily practice. What can explain this?
The driver of climate change aren't the fossil fuel companies. Although much of the action we see in the name of protecting climate is around protesting against fossil fuel companies. That's not the root of the problem.
The root of the climate crisis goes unnoticed in almost every event. Climate crisis is not being caused by this company or that party, it's caused by overconsumption.
We are consuming well beyond the planet's limits and that's what's hurting the planet and us. If our consumption remains at the same level, we can't stop the climate change even by replacing our entire energy grid with the renewables.
Because the core problem is overconsumption. The next time you discuss climate change with someone, make sure your talks are not limited to fossil fuels only. Go deeper than that. Go to the root.
Our minds have been conditioned to pursue growth every time, even when it means destruction. We believe that MORE is the answer to everything. That's why it's difficult for many of us to imagine what a degrowth economy might look like.
Normal Person: We shouldn't risk our planet's health for short-term profits.
Intelligentsia: So, you are saying we should return to the dark ages?
Normal person: A nuclear war would be the single worst thing for humanity. We must never let it happen.
Intelligentsia: Why are you supporting Russia and China ?
The doomsday clock moving to 90 seconds to midnight doesn't mean that the human civilization will collapse the exact day it reaches midnight, but one thing that can certainly be said is that humanity will be in much worse condition.
For us to continue our survival on this beautiful planet, we must drastically transform our minds like a caterpillar that after entering cocoon drastically changes into butterfly. We need that kind of change in our thinking and acting.
If our relationship with thought continues in the similar way as it is today, we can never free ourselves of the crises we collectively face. More deeply, we can never ourselves of our self (ego).
No matter what your positions are on the war between Russia and Ukraine, but one thing that must be a part of your discussion is that it could certainly lead to a nuclear holocaust which will definitely end human civilization and might end humanity itself.
